Answer:
1.Dance History is a part of World History. Studying the ancient/folk forms of dance can tell you about a society: What they ate, what they valued, social constructs, religion, climate, etc. As society developed you can also tell what was going on at the time: how history/current events affected art and society (the masses).
One of the best examples is to look at Modern Dance as it came out of Germany following World War I. It was a very dark period in history and so the art (dance) reflected those feelings of the populace. It was how they worked through those emotions. Modern Dance greats like Mary Wigman came out of this era.
Also, if you want to be a dancer, it’s just a really good idea to follow the old adage and “know where you came from.” Dance is both a physical and a mental discipline. Being able to connect the “why” in technique and choreography is an excellent part of becoming a well-rounded dancer.
2.Many dances of the early periods were performed as a ritual to the Gods who ancestors believed needed to be kept entertained for world peace.
